My First ThinkPad

A classmate recommended ThinkPads to me. I wanted an X1 Carbon, then checked my bank account and stopped wanting an X1 Carbon.

I looked at the E series and T series, read Reddit until I was convinced the keyboard difference mattered, then bought a customised T495: Ryzen 5, 16GB RAM, a 1080p IPS panel, IR camera, fingerprint reader, and WWAN.

I had an old Asus with an AMD CPU that I did not enjoy, so choosing AMD again felt slightly irresponsible. But it was about RM1,000 cheaper than the Intel version. Good enough.

The ordering site took forever. The delivery took a month. By the end I was checking my email like the machine was a passport application.

When it finally arrived, I stayed up setting it up. Then I noticed the Escape and F1 keys had a strange click.

I owned it for less than a day before it went to the service centre.

They replaced the keyboard the next day. I collected it.

Happy kid again.
